Track Day 54 -- PIR With Track Night in America
I'll get back to a writeup for this event when I can, but I didn't even get to take a single picture! I was so busy focusing on making sure my wife had fun with her first solo track event that I just lost myself in that.
For the Corvette at this event I simply changed back to my Continental Extreme Contact Force tires and... hated them. I was struggling EVERYWHERE! Front end push from apex to exit, and the tail end would struggle to stabilize on entry AND when I got on the throttle at exit. So I'd go oversteer, understeer, oversteer through every single turn.
Working with AI through everything it becomes a bit more apparent why I ran notably more aero with these tires... the car just felt sketchy by comparison to the Vitour P1's.
Supposedly throwing more aero at these tires to make them behave isn't unreasonable... so I'll crank the rear angle up to 6.5-7 degrees or so, I'll throw one more set of front canards on, and I'll actually up the pressure to 31 off the track (but not HOT off the track, as I rarely remember to leave early). Next event is ORP. We'll see if I can make these tires work with the aero changes.
As much as I want to just go back to Vitour's for every event... I'd be just buying my way into fast lap times when the times really just don't matter. So I'll run through this set of ECF's and my other set when I'm just doing track days, and then I'll use the Vitour's for competition.
