ICOM ID-5200 3D Printable Parts

I love the ICOM ID-5100... and then of course it was no surprise that the 5200 was just as exceptional of a radio! Check out my reviews over on Real Radio Reviews to see just how great the ICOM 5100 is and how much better they somehow made the ICOM 5200. Both fortunately share a ton of the same details between them, which meant I could design parts that work for both of them. Here are a few of the things I designed up and am giving away the designs for free on. If you don't have a way to 3D print any of these, shoot me an email and for a reasonable fee I can make one for you!

ID-5100/5200 Microphone Holding Clip

I downloaded the original 5100 clip to hold my mic in my truck... and it snapped pretty quick. The design was a good starting point, but required too much force to get the mic past the initial clip, straining the plastic. The plastic itself was also a bit thin where the clip attached to the base, making it easy to snap.

The solution: open up the mic clip opening and then BEEF IT UP! I've now used mine for a year straight printed in PCTG without issue. I just wrapped up a 4000 mile road trip and there's no indication it couldn't do several more heavy use road trips like that!

I used this double sided tape to attach mine to any given surface.

ID-5100/5200 Mounting Frame

So you can buy a mounting frame from ICOM for you 51000, but it has some short comings. It mounts your radio flat on whatever surface it goes on,  and in order to remove the frame you have to remove the base unit for access. That wasn't working for me.

So I designed up this ICOM 5100 base mount. It has skeletonization so air can freely flow around your base unit, it's elevated so it's not right up against a probably insulating surfaces or material (wood desk, car floor carpet), and it has exterior mounting tabs for mounting and removal flexibility. The exterior tabs are meant for M6 bolts. Should be overkill.

ID-5100/5200 Portable Station Chassis / Frame

So I wanted an ICOM 5100 for my base station originally, and that began the entire process of figuring out what that setup entailed would look lik. I started pricing out 12v power supplies, and then trying to figure out how to package all of that up, when it occured to me... why not just design something that fits a lithium battery and battery charger? The battery and battery charger cost as much as a power supply, they take up nearly the same space, and if power goes out I have 2-3 days of power to run my radio anyways... and it's portable. This seems like a no brainer way to operate the 5100/5200!

So I designed up a simple enough frame. My original intent was to be able to get it made out of Aluminum from SendCutSend... but that idea fell flat on it's face due to bending constraints, and then just how annoying having a conductive frame around battery connections wound up being. Plus it was just quite heavy and extreme overkill in durability.
